“The Stories We Could Tell” is a week-long workshop that focuses on historic storytelling through the arts. It will run from March 13-17, during Spring Break. Students in grades 6-12 will collect oral histories from local senior citizens to prepare a short performance, using period music, movement, costumes, and props for a final performance on Friday, March 17. The performance is expected to take place at 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

The camp will take place at The Doris Harper-White Community Playhouse at 11 W. Cherry Ave. in downtown Flagstaff. Register online or through our box office, 928-774-1662.

Camp hours on Monday, March 13, will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday camp hours will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Under the direction of Theatrikos’ award-winning Education Director, Joe Maniglia, educator Lisa Coe will lead students in combining the disciplines of history, technology, dance, and theater to create stories and performances that unite multiple generations of Flagstaff residents.

Program Partners include:
The Arizona Historical Society (Flagstaff Pioneer Museum) staff will train students how to collect oral histories.
The Peaks Senior Living Community will offer students the opportunity to speak with senior citizens and collect their stories.
Canyon Movement Company and Theatrikos staff and volunteers will help students craft the stories they collect into coherent performance pieces.

Tuition is $100 for the whole week, thanks to generous underwriting from the Arizona Community Foundation and the Flagstaff Arts Council. Camp registration is limited to 30 students. Partial scholarships may be available based upon need.
