50 Years of Theatrikos History with Jan Rominger
Director/Actor/TheatriKids Founder
Since 2000—22 years
1) How long have you been with Theatrikos? What was your first year?
I moved to Flagstaff 2000 and immediately began volunteering.
2) How has Theatrikos changed in that time?
In 2003 I approached Theatrikos’ Executive Director at the time and proposed to design a theater education program entitled ‘TheatriKids,” which I developed and ran for many years as a volunteer. We started with 30 actors in a 2-week performance workshop and the following summer we had over 75 young actors join us. In our third summer we jumped to 102! The income from this summer program initially helped us to hire a professional Technical Director, which we desperately needed.
3) What does Theatrikos mean to the Flagstaff community?
Community theater enriches the lives of our volunteers, as well as our community which benefits from live theatre productions. Through live theater our patrons and volunteers develop a strong appreciation of the importance of performance art.
