Stage Buddies pairs peers to create theater! I’m so proud of Theatrikos for being committed to creating an environment that is inclusive and accessible.
Two years ago, I introduced a new theatrical concept to Flagstaff through the Stage Buddies program and found much support from the Theatrikos community. Stage Buddies allows students with disabilities to be part of a theatrical production with the guidance of a peer, or “buddy”. Theatrikos has made all needed accommodations to ensure the success of each and every actor.
In 2015, the program debuted “Alice in Wonderland” and in 2016 they performed “The Jungle Book” with a cast of over 20. This fall Stage Buddies will celebrate three years with “The Aristocats” (this weekend, Nov. 3 & 4).
As I leave for college, I’m eager to see where “Stage Buddies” goes from here!
