Joel Austin

Joel Austin

Dr. Aster

Life Sucks is Joel’s Austin’s Flagstaff premiere, though audience members may recognize him from a three show run in Sedona with Emerson Theater Collaborative, where he is now a core member (Silence Is Not Golden, A Vintage Christmasand Black Irish). Joel has been working in theatre and film for over twenty-five years and has been fortunate to train with such legendary teachers as Terry Schreiber in New York City and Howard Fine in Los Angeles. He has also worked with renowned artists like David Auburn (Pulitzer Prize Award-Winning playwright of Proof), Emmy Award winner Hank Azaria, and most recently Jessica Chastain, Michael Shannon, Ellen Burstyn, and more in the Amazon original series The Space Within. Joel has worked in the southeast, New England/New York, the Pacific Northwest, and most recently the Southwest. While he lives in Los Angeles, Northern Arizona has become an artistic second home for Joel, so he’s thrilled to explore Flagstaff and breathe life into Aster in this production of Life Sucks. If you enjoy Joel’s work, check him out in Emerson Theater Collaborative’s upcoming production of Barefoot in the Park this December.
Andrew Dzeguze

Andrew Dzeguze

The Professor

Andrew Dzeguze is thrilled to be in this production of Life Sucks, with all of these brilliant people. Prior Theatrikos shows include Miracle on 34th Street (Mr. Macy), Picasso at the Lapin Agile (Gaston) and The Nerd (Warnock “Ticky” Waldgrave). His primary performance spaces during the week are the lecture halls and classrooms of NAU, where he is an Associate Teaching Professor as well as the Pre-Law Advisor in the Politics and International Affairs Department and oversees the Mock Trial program.  With sincere thanks to the love of his life, Marti Canipe, for yet again letting him devote so much time and effort to embodying a moody and grumpy old man that could have been devoted to snuggling and adventures.

This is América’s debut performance with Theatrikos! She has previously appeared in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Dog Sees God with Stargazer Collaborative Theatre. When she’s not on stage, you can find her training for Strongman competitions, outdoors on a hike, or enjoying a cozy day at home with her cat.
América would like to dedicate this performance to her friends, whose unconditional love and support help her remember that (spoiler alert) life doesn’t suck.

Nick has been a part of nearly 20 Theatrikos shows since 2009, most recently in 2025 as Robert in “The Play That Goes Wrong” and as director for “The Nerd”. Nick is a Flagstaff local and has served the community in a variety of roles over the years including KNAU radio host, KNAZ channel 2 sports anchor, broadcast news producer/director at NAU, and co-founder/marketing director for the Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival. He is also an accomplished train robber. Nick is extremely grateful to John for giving him this opportunity to be part of such a supremely talented cast, it’s been incredibly rewarding to work with this group of artists including Sherri, Deborah, and Adam. Special thanks to his partner Audra and his parents for their constant love and support. Life doesn’t suck (most of the time at least).

Vicki was last seen in Flagshakes production of Emma in the role of Mr. Woodhouse.
This past summer Flagshakes produced King Lear and Vicki was see in the title role, a
dream come true. Flagshakes also afforded Vicki the opportunity to play Titus in Titus
Andronicus, another favored experience. She earned a Viola Award for her role as
Margie in Good People – a Theatrikos production – and is glad to make her return to
this fabulous community. Her studies and career have taken her to many theatres
around the U.S. and Canada. She would like to thank you, the audience, the cast and
crew, production team, for feeding her addiction.
