Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase (NAPS) Announces 14th Annual 10-Minute Playwriting Contest
After a digital showcase of award-winning plays in 2020, the Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase (NAPS) will return to the Theatrikos stage on September 10, 11, and 12, 2021 for staged readings of this year’s contest winners.
Five winning plays will be selected by a panel of judges (to be announced soon) from general contest submissions. The contest runs from May 1 through July 15. Eligible plays should be original, have a run time of 8 to 11 minutes, and ideally require three or fewer actors. Visit arizonaplaywriting.org for full guidelines.
There is a submission fee of $15. Winning playwrights will receive small honoraria and a staged reading of their play by local directors and actors at the Doris Harper-White Playhouse in Flagstaff.
The second act will feature solicited playwrights from the diverse social, cultural, and ecological communities of the Colorado Plateau.
Auditions for all 10 plays will be held at the Doris Harper-White Playhouse on August 24, 2021 @ 6:30 pm. There are no audition requirements, and the plays are performed with scripts in hand, so no memorization is necessary.
NAPS is a collaboration among Theatrikos Theatre Company, Northern Arizona University’s MFA Program in Creative Writing, and the Northern Arizona Book Festival.
